Friday Fun Day!

As much as I wanted this week to just pass on, I have to admit that I made the best of it! 

My dining room wall is complete!! This makes me happy! I can cross it off the list. Next up is the kitchen backsplash, the breakfast bar and sewers/pool!! 

We had Dad's Birthday on Wednesday. Dinner was perfect! My Mom didn't end up making it because she was having problems with her eye. We had dinner outside on the deck, which was just perfect, but we ended up having cake inside because it cooled off!! 

Yesterday, I got my aunts photos done for her business cards! Now I just have to finish the cake smash session. Come Sunday I have photos with twins!! This should be double the fun!! 

I ran into town to get groceries and ended up having a 2 hour nap in the afternoon! 

M had ball last night in town and a typical loss came about! It was cold and rainy. Today it's supposed to be nice and so far it is just gloomy looking outside and not all that warm! 

Yesterday marked the 2 year anniversary of Cole's Birthday so we sent up birthday wishes to heaven and sported blue in his memory. 

                   

Tonight is ball and this weekend I am ever hopeful to tackle a few more projects around the house!

Saw It. Pinned It. Did It: Striped Wall

and I could not be happier with the results!

We went from the blue wall:

(excuse the crappy photo.... I just wanted to get this done and only used my phone to document this change).

 

We originally wanted to do a chevron wall but changed our minds last minute because what the heck can you hang on them? I didn't want it to be too busy and this is my only wall to showcase any art work.

 

So we primed and painted the wall white. I used Devine Pleasure by Behr.

 

 

It is actually the white that you will find throughout our house. It is not a true bright white, kind of a creamy or marshmallow color.

 

Then came the fun part. The only part where I dragged my husband into this project. We decided to do 10 inch stripes. Our wall was 101 inches - not counting the wide baseboard on the bottom. So we started the pencil process I will call it.

 

Mike figured that we could just make 3 marks along the wall and then tape along the marks. Okay - great idea, maybe in a new house where everything is square.

 

Our house is old, therefore our walls, our floors and our ceilings are far from square anymore. So we got a level out and ended up drawing a line across the whole wall. Okay wait I made that sound too easy! First I went and looked up how to paint stripes in an old house... nothing. How to paint stripes on an unlevel wall... eye ball it. Ha! So we did a combination of using the level, eye balling and measuring.

 

The problem mainly landed in the corner above the door way. The door frame was level, but the ceiling was not.

 

After we tackled that issue it really was smooth sailing from there.Just 3 marks on the wall and then tape on the marks. We were just assuming that the painters tape was straight!

 

 

Mike was being a smart ass and put tape in the middle of the lines that I should not paint! It actually helped.

I just painted the stripes with West Coast Grey by Behr. Our yellow walls we didn't change which are Melted Butter by Behr

Overall I am impressed that the lines are straight!!! I still have some touch ups to do on the yellow wall, but that's a simple fix!

I love how it has changed the total feel of the room. Now it has some class and style. It is fresh and just what I wanted. I still need to find some art work for the wall, as well as some curtains. I plan to make chevron place mats for the table.

It's My Daddy's Birthday!!

Today we are celebrating my Dad's birthday!!! 61!!! You might recall from last year that I hosted his 60th Surprise (sort-of) Party!! 

                                     

So this year is a little different... 61... No surprise... But a dinner at my house with my Dad, Sister, B.I.L, H, B,  my Mom, as well as M and I. I can't even remember the last time we had a family dinner together all under one roof!! My Dad only insisted on chocolate cake with chocolate icing. I asked him if cupcakes were fine and his response was "what those muffin things?" So cake it is!! 

What's on the menu? Ribs, twice baked potatoes, bread, corn and green beans. 

My dining room wall is done!! We chose stripes after all!! I will post more on that tomorrow!!

Chevron or Stripes??

So as we know, I have been mentioning painting our dining room wall. Well I started yesterday with primer and today will be with the white paint - which I have not changed, it is the same white throughout the house. 

The blue wall is officially gone! It was fun, but I am soooo ready for a change in my life and this just happened to be the easiest thing for me right now. 

The weather finally cooled down so I could tackle this. Originally I wanted a chevron wall, but now I am second guessing myself. I am afraid it will be too busy. What can I hang on it? So of course I brought up Pinterest and searched chevron wall. 

                                         

I love it! I really do and I can imagine it in my dining room.... But... What do you put on it? Most of the walls are just chevron, no art work. Insert dilemma - this is pretty much my only solid wall in the room without a window or door way (well actually it does have a doorway to the kitchen... Which means I actually have no walls without something on them...). Yes, this makes it the perfect accent wall, I couldn't imagine it yellow like the rest of the room. But that means it is pretty much my only wall to display anything 

picture wise. And I don't want it to look too busy:

                                   

What can you hang on the wall?? 

So I am considering scrapping the chevron and going with stripes. I've always loved stripes, heck if you looked in my closet you would see stripes. Insert striped wall option:

See where I am stuck? I'm not afraid of the trendy feel a chevron wall brings because let's face it I love chevron and I can't imagine not loving it, which is just how I feel about stripes!! Damn indecisiveness!!

My First Cake Smash Photo Session

Soo as I mentioned last week I photographed my first cake smash session! I was soo excited and couldn't be happier with the results!! 

I made the cake myself that morning using a giant cupcake mold. I was super nervous to ice it because let's face it - this was not a trial run, this is the real deal. Here is how it turned out:

   

I headed over to set up, which went smoothly. Because I actually did trial run that! 

We got the birthday girl ready and started with some birthday pics first:

And the cake was demolished!

     

We did a bath outside as well but those pics are still in the editing folder! 

I'd be lying if I said she didn't puke purple the next day!! Or that did she did not poop in the tub for the first time ever during our shoot! 

She was perfect first candidate because she just dove into that cake, crawled over it, ate it, squished it, you name it. It was perfect!!
