Life Is Precious

Hey everyone, sorry for my lack of blogging yesterday! I had a super crazy busy hectic day.

Yesterday morning was business as usual in the office. I went back to my boss's office to ask about a fax I had received and found him slumped over in his chair, whiter than a ghost from the side. He told me he wasn't feeling so good and looked at me. He was grey! I told him he didn't look all that good either! He asked me about the fax, which I just brushed off as nothing, focusing more on him. I asked him what was wrong and he told me he was coughing and now he is dizzy and sweaty. I instantly began to think OMG - HEART ATTACK! I didn't say anything to him, just kept my cool. He then suggested that maybe he might need to goto the hospital. I asked him how long he had been feeling this way and he said about 15 to 20 minutes. I began to give him crap and then told him to stay still, don't move, I am going to pull my car around. He had managed to put one of our cardiac monitors on before I had found him. He wanted the strips printed off, so I quickly did that and then decided how I was going to get him to the car.

My boss is not overweight, seems rather healthy, but he is a tall man. He is only in his fifties! So I suggested wheeling him down to my car in an office chair, which he didn't really want to do, so I warned him that if he was going to walk, that if he went down I wouldn't be able to do too much, but that there are chairs along the way. He pretty much power walked to my car and off we went to the hospital that is just 5 minutes away. Along the way I kept him talking and he finally admitted to chest pain, which made me drive all that much quicker. I told him now was not the time to judge my driving skills and that he may just want to close his eyes. I whipped into Emerg and got him in, where they proceeded to take their time. I looked at the ECG strips I had printed off and told the lady - he is having a heart attack. She looked at me like I was crazy and continued to take her time. It was getting harder to breathe and the pain was getting worse for my boss. I finally got him through registration and within 5 minutes they had him back. I was appalled by the lack of urgency. They finally came out and told me that he did have a heart attack and that they were rushing him over to another hospital for catherization. They told me his wife was called and she would be meeting him there. He was requesting to talk to me, but that they didn't have time and asked if it would be okay if I caught him on the way to the ambulance. I said that would be fine.

They brought him out and were moving quickly. He just kept calling my name, so I finally caught up and ran beside the stretcher. I tried to keep things light and told him "now you can relate first hand to our patients" he laughed and I told him he still wasn't allowed to do that! I asked him how he was and he told me he was a bit better. He asked me to call some people and work today, which I told him to STOP WORRYING!! I will take care of everything. I gave the ambulance lady my cell to give to his wife. As they were shutting the doors he said "And Ashley - Thank you"

I got an update that they could not catherize him and he went straight into bypass surgery. He survived the surgery and is recovering today, breathing on his own - doing much better! The doctor's told his family how lucky he was. They figured he had an 8 hour window and he would have been dead! That scares me soo much!!

I could not imagine if he had been there alone or if I had not gone back to office when I did!

Soo friends: eat healthy, stay fit and keep your stress levels down! Maintain your health!! This could happen to anyone! Not trying to scare you, but maybe we all need a little scare!

Sooo life at the office just got super busy! Mario did a lot of things that he had not explained how to do yet, so I am slowly figuring it all out! Soo I may not be blogging AS much right now as I am transitioning.

Please pray that his recovery goes smoothly!

Good job in remaining calm! I would be very aggravated with how slow the registration process was but I'm happy to know everything is alright!
